How to Get Your Business on Google Maps
A step-by-step guide to claiming and optimizing your Google Business Profile so you show up in local Map results.

When someone in your area searches for a service on their phone, the results they see first are almost always from Google Maps. If your business isn't showing up there, you're invisible to the customers most ready to hire. The good news: getting on Google Maps is free — it just takes the right setup.
Step 1: Claim your Google Business Profile
Go to google.com/business and sign in with a Google account. Search for your business name — if it already exists (Google often auto-creates listings), claim it. If not, create a new one. Google will verify you by mail, phone, or video, depending on your business type.
Verification can take a few days, so start this immediately if you haven't already.
Step 2: Fill out everything completely
An incomplete profile ranks poorly. Fill out every field: business name, categories (pick the most accurate primary category — it matters a lot), service areas, hours, phone, website, services list, and a description with your main services and locations.
Add photos — of your team, your work, your truck, your logo. Profiles with photos get significantly more engagement and calls.
Step 3: Get reviews
Reviews are one of the strongest local ranking factors. Ask every happy customer for a review — ideally right after the job is done. You can send a direct link to your review page via text or email. The more recent, genuine, five-star reviews you have, the better you rank.
Step 4: Build local citations
Google cross-references your business info across the web. Make sure your name, address, and phone number are consistent on directories like Yelp, Bing Places, Apple Maps, and industry-specific sites. Inconsistent info confuses Google and hurts your ranking.
Step 5: Be active
Post updates, add new photos regularly, respond to every review (good and bad), and keep your hours updated. An active profile signals to Google that your business is real and current.
This all takes time and consistency. Velvero Group manages Google Business Profiles as part of our local SEO service — get your free quote if you'd rather have it handled for you.
